2010 Freestyle World Cup at Deer Valley – Sundance and Snow

The first three day ski weekend of the 2010 year is almost here and we’ve got the snow to prove it. Last night we got a light dusting with more coming this morning and throughout the day. We are gearing up for the Freestyle World Cup events taking place at Deer Valley as well. It’s one of the last stops on the tour before the selection of the Olympic team, which will happen at the end of the month.

The World Cup kicks off today with mogul competitions then you can head down to Main Street and listen to The Bravery play a free concert. All events are free and open to the public so go out see our Olympic hopefuls compete for gold and a spot in Vancouver.

As we head into the long weekend, we expect to be getting more snow on Susundance_film_festival_2008_logo_imagenday through much of next week. That means coverage at Deer Valley, Park City and The Canyons should be perfect for Sundance. While Sundance is great time to watch for Hollywood stars cruising Main Street, its an even better time to ski. The lines are short and the mountains are wide open. So when you’re looking to rent ski equipment and accessories or snowboards and have them delivered to your door in Deer Valley, Park City or the Canyons, be sure to call Skis on the Run (435) 940-0744.

So whether you want to charge down 99/90 at the top of The Canyons or you just want start your apres ski with a Noon cocktail by the fireplace at the Empire Lodge in Deer Valley, the mountains should have plenty of new snow and fresh tracks for you to make.

You can take in some movies and still have time to hit the social scene at various hotspots on Main Street like the Downstairs and the Spur.

We’ll keep you posted on any interesting movies we see and personalities we cross paths with while cruising Main Street in the next week.

Get out your Storm Rider skis for this one!

Park City, Deer Valley and the surrounding areas have been getting pounded by a huge storm coming in from the North.

Check out a radar map of Park City’s weather

Deer Valley Resort is reporting 21″ of snow in the past 24 hours. The Canyons is reporting 22″ of snow in the past 24 hours. And Park City Mountain Resort is reporting 15″ in the past 24. The roads are plowed, but cautious driving is still recommended.

Park City’s resorts have all opened more terrain this weekend, including an astonishing 22 runs at Deer Valley Resort. All three resorts plan to continue opening new terrain as the storm continues through the night. Skis on the Run offers a Storm Rider package, ideal for these conditions.

Favorite ski for today is the Volkl Bridge, a mid-fat twin-tip ski that bridges the gap between powder skiing and park skiing. This ski is ideal for these conditions because you can enjoy some of the waist-deep powder in the trees and duck through the beginner parks that are open at Park City Mountain and The Canyons Resort on your way back down to the lift. Skis on the Run offers this ski as a part of their new “Storm Rider Package” at only $58/day!!

Another great ski for the wetter snow we’re receiving is the Rossignol Phantom SC80 — its large shovel and lightweight design help the ski float on top of the powder and the 80 mm waist helps to keep skiers from getting bogged down. Skis on the Run carries this ski in six different lengths, ranging from 155 cm all the way up to 180 cm, as part of the Elite Ski Package at $52/day.

Selling Out for the Holidays

Best Selection of Skis in Deer ValleyWe are getting busy for the holidays once again and it looks like we will be sold out of equipment from all our vendors – K2, Rossignol, Volkl, Dynastar, Blizzard, Nordica, Atomic and Salomon. We have had a lot of people requesting specific brands and specific skis like the Volkl AC30 and the K2 Xplorer for men as well the Luv series – True, Free and Lotta from K2 for women.

We are also getting a signficant number of requests for our rental clothing. Its so convenient for families who don’t generally live in cold weather climates and only ski 7 to 10 days a season to rent the ski clothing for themselves and their children rather than spend hundreds of dollars on new clothes they will soon out grow.

This season we’ve developed a great partnership with the new Dakota Mountain Lodge, a Waldorf Astoria property, and the St. Regis at Deer Crest. So for guests staying at these hotels don’t forget to ask about our service. We are also the preferred vendor for delivery services for Deer Valley. All of these relationships have helped us to have a very strong start to the season.

We look forward to providing you world class service and equipment when you come to visit us in Park City and Deer Valley.

Everyone’s On Board for Ski Rentals & Delivery

So we’ve hired our staff of ski techs, tuners and reservationists for the season. Everyone is going through training now and we will soon be ready to deliver ski and snowboard rental equipment to our guests in Deer Valley, Park City and The Canyons. We have over HALF our staff returning from last season so the same people that helped our guests have an unforgettable ski experience last year will be back assisting guests again this season.

Deer Valley, The Canyons and Park City will all be open this weekend!

Deer Valley, The Canyons and Park City will all be open this weekend!

The Canyons opened last Friday and Deer Valley opens this weekend. Deer Valley will hosting its celebrity ski challenge this weekend and supposedly Larry David and other celebreties will be hanging around.

We’re expecting a nice solid storm in the early part of next week so hopefully the Deer Valley, Park City and the Canyons will start opening more sections of their respective mountains.

Snow in the Wasatch Mountains

It looks like ski season has officially gotten underway in the Wasatch Mountains. We got a nice layer of snow last night, anywhere from 6″ to 10″ across the mountains. Park City Mountain Resort is open and The Canyons and Deer Valley are still on schedule to open Novembe 27th and December 5th, respectively. It is expected to be cold for most of this week, which is great for snow making, and there is a chance for snow in the forecast on Friday. All good news!
